Ice Skating

Today we did ice skating in the hall. It was not cold even though ice is very cold because it was plastic. They had a bubble machine. Mason fell 1,000000 times...maybe not  1,0000000, but you get the picture. Every second was filled with excitement  and laughter. The boys had lots of races. It was a great afternoon.

Calendar Art

We have been doing some amazing calendar art they all look awesome! :) We have been inspired by a Maori artist that draws colourful animals with a cool backgrounds. Room 18 had to learn all the hot and cold colours so we can blend and use them for our art. We have turned a pencil out line into a fabulous piece of artwork. We hope you like room 18 masterpieces. We think they are fab by the way!

Evacuation training

Today in the middle block Room 18 went to the hall to be trained on how to do an evacuation and lock down. We saw this lady called Julie then she told us what we should do when there is a earthquake, flood and a fire or if there is a earthquake. We learnt that in a lock down we should wait until three of the teachers called Mr Gower or Mrs Winters or Mrs Dinnisen come and tell us we are safe. We practised this in the last block today. Our Personal Reviews

We have started to do our personal reviews. Our personal reviews are something that we do every term. In our personal reviews we write about our goals and what we have done in reading, writing and maths. We then take them home to share with our parents at the end of every term. In our class the year 6's do it first so they can support the Year 5's when they have finished. The year 5's that aren't doing their personal review do a rotation of writing there poem where we write about what peace looks like, smells like, tastes like, feels like and sounds like.

The Dojo point collector is taking Room18 by STORM!!!

Every body has been pining for dojo points.
Dojo points are points collected for any reason in room 18. We earn dojo points by having good behaviours and we are doing it in groups our table groups.
At the end of the week the table that has the most dojo points gets the weekly rewards that Miss Butler chooses.

Beach clean up

Today the year 5/6 kids from Beachlands School went to Pine Harbour for the beach clean up. We walked to the beach beside Pine Harbour. We had an awesome time cleaning up the beach. We found a lot of rubbish. There was all sorts of things such as wood, plastic, tubes, glass, bottles, metal & concrete.

We were there for about an hour. Some of our parents came to help out for the day. We were paired up with the parents & other teachers. Some of the kids went out to the end of the point were there was only a rock breaker. The teachers had the first aid kit & they wore bright yellow jackets so we knew were they were. They also gave us some gloves so we didn't get everything on our hands.

Day 2 in Room 18

Hi 18ers!
What a busy two days it has been. Today we tried a teambuilding activity called "Stepping Stones" where we were in teams and had to use strong stones and weak stones to get across the 'lava' (or carpet!)
Lots of smiling faces showed me the activity was fun, but when we reflected on our progress we realised our communication wasn't too great yet! I know that will improve as we get to know each other and work with everyone in our classroom.

This afternoon we did a silent walk and talk to reflect on our day. Most of us enjoyed the Stepping Stones activity, swimming and statistics. We looked at our norms - which are we doing well/which do we need to work on? Most of us agreed that we are all being friendly toward one another but some of us decided they needed work on it!

See you all tomorrow!

Welcome to 2015!

Hello to my new Room Eighteen learners!

Welcome to our blog! I am excited to use this space as a way to share our learning, both the end result and the process along the way. We will all have the opportunity to add to the blog over the year.

I cannot wait to see everyone's smiling faces in the first week back at school. We will be starting our Learning Pathway, get back into our reading and writing and starting a statistical investigation. We will enjoy getting to know each other over the next couple of weeks, as well as learning about our classroom and the ways we will be working together.

See you all on Monday!
Miss Butler
