Room 20's Camp Experiences!

Hi parents! We are finally blogging about camp :) the class has put together a few sentences about their camp experiences for you to read. We have been working on descriptive writing, so it is good to see some vivid vocab being used.
I am still looking for the ideal way to share all of our wonderful photos with you - I shall let you all know when we have found it!

Tiana, Tom, Ben, Matt and  Layton
Sadly the children's constant roar forced the birds from their nest in search for quieter places.
When he looked at the sausage it was burnt. He got a new one and then the dark pit of embers did its job.
The flying fox was the most awesome flying fox ever.
I went on the rope swing and swung back and forth at the speed of light.
The musty smell of decaying leaves pushed him away from entering the bivouac.

Ryan B, Ryan C and Georgia
On our way to camp it was a very windy road around the country side. When we arrived the first thing we did was the flying fox. It was awesome, everyone enjoyed it, even Miss Butler did it as well. The food was really cool because we cooked our own. We had sausages and we wrapped some damper dough
around a stick and cooked it. We also roasted marshmellows. Some people had a burnt marshmellow and ate it. Later on we did a glow worm hike through the bush. It was totally pitch black. On the next day we did rock climbing. Some people made it to the top and some didn't.

Kaydyn, Marcus, Rachel and Caitlin
We zoomed past the bush on the strong long zip line on the flying fox. We also enjoyed the confidence course because we fell in the water on the water wheel. We really enjoyed the water activities. Here is Rachel's sentence... I enjoyed the water confident course because I fell in a lot. And here is Marcus's sentence... Marcus enjoyed the kayaking but found the water confidence challenging because the water wheel was too difficult. And here is Caitlin's sentence... The slimy eels slither up my icy legs.

Thomas Allsopp, William, Libby, Oscar and Ricco
The water confidence courses was funny because Thomas fell in the water more than 20 times.
Kayaking was fun because we had to go underneath a log.
The toilets were filled with disgusting cicadas. They were driving us up the roof.
Horse riding was awesome because of all the tricks we did on the horses.
The flying fox was epic because it what really fast and fun.

Byron, Charlie, Jess and Nathan
Byron: at camp we did kayaking. I was nervous at first but when I got in the kayak I got more confident. The person asked me if I wanted to go fast or slow in the water and I asked for it to go slow. when all of us got in she told us to go under a big long log and it was not so thin. If you didn't duck you would of really hurt your head. I did it with out hitting my head. After a while we played a game call tag the kayak. It's when there where three taggers and everyone else had to try not to get tug on the back of their kayak because you could only tag people on there back of their kayak .
Charlie: I liked camp, it was fun. My favorite thing was the flying fox.
Nathan: the most exciting thing there was the flying fox. It goes over a jungle and it looks amazing =)
Jess: The horses were really fun.

Chloe, Genevieve, Isla, Kira and Jamie
Kira, Ryan, Jess and Charlie had the best marshmallow burning competition. We went to the extent of setting her one on fire.
Jamie loved bed time but it wasn't bed time for him. 3:00 am he got to sleep. Ryan and Byron stayed up to the morning.
Chloe was freezing cold in the water.
Isla was not a fan of the mud but she did enjoy the flying fox
Genevieve loved the horse riding.

You Got The Power!

Today we saw a magic show called You Got The Power! The man, Elgregoe, performed lots of magic tricks and illusions. Everyone was gobsmacked by the amazing tricks. He showed us a painting of a dove and we were amazed when it came to life! We were confused when he poured water out of a jug and it filled up on its own.
The blue macaw magically appeared from underneath the cloth.

Elgregoe talked to us about 5 values - responsible, trustworthy, caring, respect, acceptance.
Nico told us to keep our WITS about us when people are being mean - Walk away, Ignore, Talk to someone, Stop.
They put the assistant, Sue, into a box, shrunk it and put a tube inside!
Sharni had to use a magic wand to get the rare African Grey parrot out of the basket. They kept her bigger wands - the last one was so big she could not hold

it. She got a prize - they told her she was getting a free iPad. It turned out to be a pad of paper with eyes - an EYEpad!
The magic show was splendid, you could even say phenomenal.

The aftermath of camp

Look at all our tired children!

We had a fantastic time at camp and I am so proud of all of those who came with us. There were lots of new challenges and every single person did the best they could at overcoming their own challenges and fears. Thank you to you all - you made my first camp at Beachlands School wonderful and memorable.

We will post more about camp later this week - keep an eye out for that!

What do we love about being in Room 20?

On Wednesday afternoon, I wrote the following statement on the whiteboard:
I LOVE being in our classroom when...
I invited everyone in Room 20 to finish this statement, telling us when they enjoy being in class. This is what we added...

I am looking forward to doing this again at the end of the term to compare our answers!

What stuck with you today?

What a busy and exciting first day we have had! It was great meeting you all and watching you get to know your new classmates.
I hope you have been able to think more about what you enjoyed and found difficult about today. I am glad to see most of you enjoyed the power writing! We will be continuing this throughout the term so start thinking of some words you might like to suggest.

Welcome to our first term of 2014!!

Hello to my new Room Twenty learners!
I have had a busy but wonderful holiday - I hope you have had the same and I am excited to hear about your holiday highlights.
After being back at school for a week with only the teachers around, I am excited to see all of your smiling faces! I cannot wait to start our learning journey for 2014. We will enjoy getting to know each other over the next couple of weeks, as well as learning about our classroom and the ways we will be working together.
Our camp is on Thursday and Friday of Week 3 - we will be challenging ourselves and exploring the outdoors at Sonshine Ranch.
I am looking forward to keeping everyone up to date on our learning with this blog - it will be fun working together to share what we have been doing in Room 20.
